Orthodontic Treatment in Austin TX

Dental issues such as crowded or crooked teeth can affect your self-confidence, speech, chewing, and your overall health. Misaligned teeth also place excess pressure on other teeth, gums, and jaw joints, leading to joint complications.

Orthodontic treatment helps improve crooked teeth or a poor bite, also clinically known as malocclusion. Aligning or moving your teeth improves their appearance and function. It helps maintain the long-term strength of your teeth, gums, and jawbone joints, by balancing pressure on your teeth.

At AKT Orthodontics and BKT Orthodontics, we provide orthodontic services to patients of all ages in Austin and Buda, TX.

What Does an Orthodontist Do?

An orthodontist is a dental specialist who specializes in correcting teeth and jaw function as well as aesthetic concerns. Orthodontists attend four years of dental school and a 2-3 year residency in orthodontics to learn the science of tooth movement and how to diagnose and treat malocclusions, jaw alignment issues, and other orthodontic concerns. Our orthodontist, Dr. Claire Foreman is board-certified and committed to providing you and your family with the specialized orthodontic care you deserve.

Orthodontists can treat several conditions, including:

  • Teeth that are crooked or too far apart
  • Speech problems
  • Narrow palate
  • Jaw alignment
  • Treat existing problems and identify problems that are developing
  • Dental effects of thumb/finger sucking habit
  • Malocclusions: Overbite, underbite, deep bite, overjet, open bite, crossbite, crowding, spacing

Orthodontic Services

At both of our offices, we provide comprehensive dental and orthodontic services to patients in Austin and Buda, TX.

  • Traditional Metal Braces: This is one of the most common orthodontic treatments in use today. Traditional braces typically have a combination of metal brackets, metal wires made of stainless steel, and/or elastics such as rubber bands that facilitate tooth movements to correct malocclusions and straighten teeth.
  • Ceramic Braces: Sometimes referred to as clear braces, ceramic braces are very similar to traditional braces but are constructed of a ceramic material that blends into the natural tooth color, making the appliance less noticeable.
  • Clear AlignersInvisalign: This is a state-of-the-art orthodontic appliance that has replaced traditional braces for many. Invisalign doesn't involve brackets and wires but instead utilizes a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners worn over the teeth. They’re completely transparent, comfortable, and removable. They gradually move your teeth to the desired position as you change your trays.

Who Can Get Orthodontic Treatment?

Regardless of age, orthodontic treatment creates a comfortable bite, making teeth fit better and decreasing the risk of future dental problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, and difficulty chewing. At AKT Orthodontics and BKT Orthodontics, we provide orthodontic treatment for:

  • Children 6-10 years old: Starting orthodontic treatment such as braces, retainers, expanders during your child’s early years helps avoid progressive dental issues, meaning less extensive treatment in the future. At this age, orthodontic treatment is the most effective due to softer tissue. When a child is younger, it’s much easier to correct orthodontic problems such as protruding teeth, crowding, spacing, and missing teeth since the bone is more malleable and easier to manipulate. It is recommended that kids get an orthodontic evaluation around the age of 7 to detect potential problems early on and plan treatment accordingly.
  • Teens 11-17 years old: The majority of kids that need braces will get them at this time. Teens still have a lot of growing to do, but your mouth stops growing once all of your teeth come in. Starting orthodontic treatment after a patient has lost most or all of their baby teeth can be ideal.
  • Adults: Austin Kids Teeth also provides adult orthodontic treatment. It is never too late to see an orthodontist! Today, many adults are electing to address concerns with their smiles, and we would love to help you!

What if my teeth aren’t that bad?

If you are uncertain if you should get braces we suggest making an appointment for an orthodontic consultation. Dr. Claire will take a look at your teeth, the alignment of your upper and lower jaw, and your overall jaw function to help you come to the best decision about your care

Orthodontics Cost

Typically, insurance covers a portion of the cost of orthodontia services. Our orthodontic offices also offer several payment options, including payment plans and interest-free financing to make your orthodontic treatment affordable.
